to be. Meditation is meant to be a very simple, intuitive exercise, and the mere act of understanding its
simplicity can go a long way toward allowing you to enjoy its many benefits.
The first step to learning how to meditate for beginners is to trust your own
inner wisdom. Many of us believe that the knowledge needed to enjoy the benefits of meditation can only come from
an outside source, but the truth is, you already possess all of the skills and knowledge you need to meditate

Guided Meditation
If you find that you still have trouble trusting your own inner wisdom, though,
you might choose to begin with a guided meditation recording. Guided meditations use stories and imagery to help
your mind relax, and to put aside the ”monkey mind” - the meaningless chatter that goes on in the back of your head
all day.
They are also helpful if you want to solve a specific problem or achieve a
certain goal - a guided meditation recording will walk you through a series of suggestions and images designed to
remove the mental and emotional blocks that have been keeping you from progressing toward your personal
goals.
Meditation Posture
Correct posture and positioning is also an important part of learning how to meditate for beginners. Many practitioners prefer to assume
the ”lotus” position while meditating - in the lotus position; you simply sit on the floor or on a cushion with
your legs crossed, keeping your back straight and your hands gently resting on your knees.
This position allows for optimal breathing, because your lungs are not
constricted by a slouched posture. It might take some practice to be able to maintain the lotus position, but doing
this will greatly improve your ability to meditate effectively.
Breathing Meditation
Correct breathing will also improve the effectiveness of your meditations. Inhale
slowly through the nose, drawing in air deeply and evenly. You should exhale through your mouth in the same slow,
even manner. Deep, rhythmic breathing will maintain the flow of universal energy in your body, and will allow you
to reach a deep meditative state more quickly and consistently. Deep breathing
meditations are just one way to relax and calm the body and mind.
Quiet Mind Meditation
Finally, one of the most important parts of learning how to meditate for
beginners is knowing what to do with irrelevant thoughts when they pop into your mind (and they will). New
practitioners often either try to ”force” these thoughts out of their minds, or allow themselves to be distracted
by the thoughts. Both of these mistakes will diminish the benefits of
meditation. Instead, you should simply acknowledge the thoughts as they arise, noticing them without judgment
or emotion, and allow them to drift away.
You will find that, simply by treating these thoughts impartially, you will
quickly achieve a quiet state of mind - the irrelevant thoughts will slow down and eventually stop
altogether.
